• There’s no better way than to reach out for a chat.

Our initial conversation will uncover where you are in the process of your project—what steps you’ve taken and what steps will come next.

  • No. MRP+B is focused on timber framing. Accordingly, we are typically a subcontractor for the project.

In this way, we can remain invested in our craft and the quality of our product, the finished timber frames.

Most often, a client finds us first and we refer them to a shortlist of trusted general contractors who have experience in completing timber-framed homes.

  • MRP+B is a custom timber frame shop and therefore we do not offer spec home kits to purchase. Accordingly, each frame is unique in its demands and requisites.

Factors that affect pricing range from timber species to size of the home, complexity of joinery, degree of embellishments and so on. A particular timber frame design can often be tailored to better accommodate budgeting goals.

We happily provide free estimates and love speaking with potential clients about their ideas.

  • We work with a range of timber species from local softwoods and hardwoods to those that come by railcar across the country.

We commonly cut frames from eastern hemlock, eastern white pine and douglas fir. Our preferred species is eastern hemlock. We enjoy its aesthetic and value its strength in our frame designs.

  • Timber framing requires more lead time by nature than conventional construction.

From the moment a contract is signed there will be 6-8 weeks of lead time from the mills that saw the squared timbers from green logs. Once the timbers reach our shop, there will be 4-8 weeks of joinery time to craft the frame.

Thankfully this time is independent of all the other preparations and work you will have done at your site. Land must be cleared, foundations poured, rough grading completed and a deck constructed for the timber frame to reside on.

Time needed between initial conversation and contract varies depending on many factors, including land acquisition, design time, review time and so forth. We are upfront about our projected schedule and prompt on communications to do our part for a smooth project timeline.

  • MRP+B operates out of our shop in Waitsfield, Vermont, center of the Mad River Valley. It is here that all of our timber frames are hand-cut by our craftsmen.

We routinely raise timber frames and provide timber-framed elements all over our home state of Vermont, our neighboring states and beyond.

We’ve completed projects all over the Northeast and across the country. We never shy from a trip away from home.

  • MRP+B has in-house timber frame design capacity. Frame design service is included with all of our full frame projects.

We do not produce full construction sets and typically refer customers to an architect for producing these critical documents.

We work together with your architect to ensure the frame design and your construction plans get along without a hitch.

  • We have longstanding relationships with engineers who are well-versed in timber frame construction. Where necessary, we work with an engineer to review critical aspects of timber frame designs.

Should it be required or requested, our engineer can provide a fully reviewed and stamped set of plans for your project, at a fee.
